Young researchers are encouraged to contribute to innovative research in the field of disaster risk through this exciting, capacity building Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) program. 

IRDR is a global, trans-disciplinary research program, sponsored by the ICSU, the ISSC, and the UNISDR, that focuses on the challenges brought by natural disasters, mitigating their impacts, and improving related policy-making mechanisms. As part of this, it aims to promote the capacity building of young professionals and encourage them to undertake innovative and needs-based research that enhances the links between science-policy and science-practice.

The IRDR Young Scientists Program offers early-career researchers from across the globe the opportunity to undertake research in the field of disaster risk with access to the IRDR's network of professionals and practitioners and academic support from the IRDR Scientific Committee. Successful candidates will also have the chance to participate in IRDR training programs.

In order to qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria: 

• Less than 40 years on the date of application
• Affiliated with an academic program (master or doctorate) either as a student or as a young faculty member
• The subject of research needs to be related to disaster risk reduction and its link to broader environmental and development issues
• Endorsed by academic supervisor (for student) or head of the department/graduate school (for the young faculty members)

Participation in the Young Scientists Program is for a minimum of one year, and a maximum of three years. Applications must be submitted by 28 February 2018.
