The programme promises a “look back on the accomplishments of the previous century of Earth and space science research, and forward to the next century of scientific advancement.” The scientific programme is built around symposia organized by the union and the associations alone or jointly.

The list of interesting sessions for mountain scientists is long, but we recommend starting with a look at the sessions from the International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS) and International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS). In addition, the sessions from International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI) and International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) have a lot of mountain relevant session topics, while the joint symposia, address more applied topics such as session JC03 – Mountain Cryosphere Hazards (IACS, IAVCEI).

In particular, we’d like to highlight session C14 – Cryospheric Processes and Related Socioeconomic Services, co-convened by MRI Scientific Leadership Council member Christian Huggel.

The deadline for abstract submission is 18 February 2019, and registration is now open.
