The GEO Mountains General Meeting 2021 served as a platform for exchange, bringing participants up to speed on recent developments at GEO Mountains and inviting discussion on the activities of Task Groups. GEO Mountains participants also provided key updates on ongoing projects that could contribute to the objectives of GEO Mountains.

GEO Mountains hosted members / participants and other interested parties virtually at a General Meeting on 30 November 2021. The meeting provided an opportunity for the initiative Co-Lead and Scientific Project Officer to share recent activities and future plans with the community, as well as discuss possibilities for collaboration and engagement.

GEO Mountains Scientific Project Officer James Thornton shared key 2021 achievements, including multiple projects and publications. MRI Executive Director and GEO Mountains co-lead Carolina Adler also added updates from the Working Groups of the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and outcomes of the recent GEO Week.

After a preview of events planned in 2022, meeting participants enjoyed contributions from members of the GEO Mountains community. Gabe Wolken (University of Alaska Fairbanks) presented the Community Snow Observations project, and Marc Zebisch (EURAC Research) shared the AI4EBV project (of which GEO Mountains is also a part).

We look forward to the community’s continued collaboration on GEO Mountains Task Groups, which co-develop and conduct specific tasks that have been identified in the GEO Mountains Implementation Plan. Joining a Task Group entails making a tangible contribution in one area or another to these efforts. The Task Groups, like GEO Mountains as a whole, are open and inclusive, with all those with relevant interests and skills most welcome.
