Volume 43, number 2 of the Mountain Research and Development journal is now available online and open access.

A study in the European Alps shows how spatial and socioeconomic newcomers preserve and reflect on rural architecture, practices, and knowledge—key assets of the Alpine cultural landscape. Another article discusses the implications of more and new types of visitors coming to the Swiss National Park after the pandemic. A study in Austria investigates mountain farmers’ attitudes to herd protection and offers suggestions on how to support them in embracing necessary changes. Research on monitoring activities in the Andes highlights the need for integrated, transdisciplinary initiatives to support the adaptive management of Andean social–ecological systems. Finally, the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mountain Research presents and discusses a transformative project involving researchers, artists, and inhabitants of a Swiss mountain valley.
