This course provides concepts and tools for implementing Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practices, taking into account ecosystem and landscape-based approaches, which promote sustainable development and resilience to processes of environmental change. The course language is Spanish. The deadline to register is 25 March 2020.

The course focuses on Andean landscapes, taking into account the structure and functioning of important forest and non-forest ecosystems to maintain key ecosystem services. Similarly, the course highlights the opportunities and challenges associated with Andean ways of life, especially in areas dominated by small agricultural producers and in the links between these landscapes and urban areas.

The course seeks to balance the development of conceptual frameworks with the application of tools, in order to strengthen capacities for planning and implementation of SLM in real contexts. Links between SLM, adaptation and mitigation to address climate change and territorial governance, are explored. The applied component of the course includes territorial planning tools, guides for the implementation of SLM strategies and strategies for strengthening governance processes. Also included are case studies that present practical experiences in the application of these concepts. In addition, a series of references and support materials are made available to delve into each of the topics addressed.

This course is taught in Spanish and has been developed collaboratively between the Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion (Condesan) and the Andean University Simón Bolívar - Ecuador Headquarters (UASB-E).
