The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Directorate has organized a series of webinars, in anticipation of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27). The main objective of these webinars is to foster discussion among scientists, government representatives, journalists, and civil society, among others, on the impacts of climate change in our region, and solutions to create more resilient societies.
These virtual sessions will be held on 11-13 October 2022 in English and Spanish.
La Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI ha organizado una serie de seminarios virtuales, en anticipación a la 27ª sesión de la Conferencia de las Partes de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (COP 27). Su objetivo es fomentar el debate entre científicos, representantes gubernamentales, periodistas y la sociedad civil, entre otros, sobre los impactos del cambio climático en nuestra región, y las soluciones para crear sociedades más resilientes.
Estas sesiones tendrán lugar del 11 al 13 de octubre de 2022 in Inglés y Español.
Side Event #1: Science communication to tackle global environmental change
This side event focuses on the importance of science communication in improving the dissemination of scientific knowledge on climate change impacts and solutions, and its social appropriation. The discussion will center on the IAI-Latinoamérica 21 Compendium "The impacts of climate change in Latin America and the Caribbean" Compendium contributors and editors will participate in the panel.
Side Event #2: Key messages from the IPCC AR6 for the UNFCCC COP27
This panel convenes IPCC authors from Latin American countries to discuss key messages from the IPCC 6 assessment report – AR6 – and its implications for the region. The discussion will center on co-benefits for climate adaptation and mitigation and the information countries need to know to increase resilience to climate change.
Este panel convoca a los autores del IPCC de los países latinoamericanos para discutir los mensajes clave del sexto informe de evaluación del IPCC - AR6 - y sus implicaciones para la región. La discusión se centrará en los co-beneficios para la adaptación y mitigación del clima y la información que los países necesitan conocer para aumentar la resiliencia al cambio climático.
Side Event #3: Water security and anticipatory governance for resilient communities
Water security is one of the most pressing problems related to climate change. This session will focus on identifying strategies to improve water security and governance in the context of global environmental change in South America. Transdisciplinary experts will present examples from the region, focusing on current science and policy on water security, and anticipatory governance for resilient communities.
La seguridad del agua es uno de los problemas más acuciantes relacionados con el cambio climático. Esta sesión se centrará en la identificación de estrategias para mejorar la seguridad y la gobernanza del agua en el contexto del cambio ambiental global en Sudamérica. Expertos transdisciplinarios presentarán ejemplos de la región, centrándose en la ciencia y la política actuales sobre la seguridad del agua, y la gobernanza anticipatoria para las comunidades resilientes.
Side Event #4: Finance for climate adaptation: the case of Latin America
This session will convene government officials working at the forefront of climate change negotiations in Latin America. The discussion will provide an overview of the financial needs and opportunities for adaptation from the perspective of the state, focusing on how climate change impacts the region and how climate finance can enhance adaptation and mitigation strategies.
Esta sesión reunirá a funcionarias gubernamentales que trabajan en la vanguardia de las negociaciones sobre el cambio climático en América Latina. El debate proporcionará una visión general de las necesidades y oportunidades financieras para la adaptación desde la perspectiva del Estado, centrándose en cómo el cambio climático afecta a la región y cómo la financiación climática puede mejorar las estrategias de adaptación y mitigación.
