Completed Working Groups

Over the coming decades, mountain regions and societies will experience dramatic biophysical and socioeconomic transformations as a consequence of global changes. Education and training will play a crucial role in fostering our understanding of these complex processes. Bringing together an interdisciplinary and international team of experts, this Working Group aligns with one of MRI’s key goals: action is taken to support the development of the next generation of educators interested in global change in mountains.

In times of climate change and disruptive social and economic change, the resilience of mountain social-ecological systems requires both the flexibility to respond to changes (adaptive capacity) as well as the ability to prepare for changes (innovative capacity). This Working Group aimed to collect existing knowledge and build new capacity in mountain resilience, working toward a dynamic assessment of the evolving state of mountain social-ecological system resilience to interconnected environmental changes.
