The Institute for Earth Observation at Eurac Research is a dynamic research institute analysing and assessing the root causes of pressing risks related to climate change and natural hazards in order to support and inform adaptation planning and risk management. It studies climate factors and hazards using modelling techniques, machine learning, earth observation, and interdisciplinary and social science methods with the aim of improving understanding of vulnerability and exposure factors.

Eurac Research has built a strong reputation in developing and improving frameworks and concepts to assess and analyse risks in a standardised way. Eurac Research works globally at different scales with activities ranging from the local scale to EU-funded research programmes in the Alps, to international consultancy projects with partner organisations such as the German Development Agency (GIZ), United Nations University (UNU), or United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

In this context Eurac Research are looking for a senior researcher/expert with proven experience in the field of climate and disaster risk assessment and analysis methodologies and their application in projects worldwide.

Tasks: 

  • Conducting and supporting climate risk assessments and analysis with mixed methods in running projects
  • Further developing, validating, and improving Eurac's risk assessment approach
  • Acquiring new projects in the field of climate and disaster risk
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Project management and support in group management

Requirements:

  • PhD (or equivalent work experience) in the field of risk management, environmental engineering, geography, geoecology or a comparable course of study.
  • Project experience and publication record in interdisciplinary risk assessment in the field of climate change, natural hazards or related fields such as agriculture or water management.
  • Very good background in data analysis with quantitative approaches.
  • Experience in qualitative research methods desirable.
  • Experience in project management and project acquisition.
  • Ability to work in a team, leadership, and good communication and networking skills.
  • Very good knowledge of English and additionally of one of the languages Italian or German.
