The Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP) is inviting funding proposals for interdisciplinary teams to develop evidence-based solutions to the most critical challenges facing humans and the planet - and the MRI is offering its support.

For 2018, SNAPP has announced a request for proposals to convene interdisciplinary working groups of 12-18 people from diverse organizations. With support from SNAPP funding, these 'Science to Solutions' teams will meet for a number of collaborative sessions (lasting 3-5 days each) over the course of 18-24 months in order to deliver rapid solutions to challenges at the intersection of nature conservation, sustainable development, and human well-being.

Between sessions, team members will collaborate remotely to publish research, develop implementation tools and products, and support decision-makers’ use of the results. 

SNAPP 'Science to Solutions' working groups should include experts from diverse disciplines to synthesize data relevant to their work, as well as key people poised to make changes in the humanitarian, sustainable development, and conservation sectors, and to influence policy at national and international levels.

A combined funding total of up to USD 1 million is available. Proposals will be evaluated based on their inclusion of:

• A robust plan to connect science results directly to the programs and entities that can use these results to guide policy and practice
• Clear, intriguing science questions at the intersection of sustainable development and conservation
• Team diversity across sectors, disciplines, and members 
• A cost-effective plan for the use of SNAPP funding, including efficient budgets and matching or leveraging other funds

MRI SUPPORT
The MRI encourages mountain-specific research that addresses the themes of this call. We are also offering to support your group's proposal with endorsement letters, and may consider a small financial contribution or other forms of support, such as providing a dissemination platform, if this strengthens the proposal's chances of funding.
