The World Mountain Forum (WMF) is uniquely positioned to provide a timely space for policy-makers, scientists, and practitioners to share experiences and best practices, and develop integrated solutions to existing challenges to sustainable development in mountain regions. The WMF 2018 programme includes high-level segments for leaders and dignitaries, plenary and keynote presentations, debate panels, parallel sessions on four core thematic issues (outlined below), and field trips. WMF 2018 aims to build on past achievements and successes, and develop scenarios for a thriving mountain future. The government of Kyrgyzstan is hosting this prestigious event, and looks forward to welcoming participants to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The full programme of the 4-day event, including side events, is available in a final draft version on the WMF 2018 website.
WMF 2018 themes and format
The WMF 2018 is structured around four core thematic issues:
How can you participate and contribute?
As one of the co-organisers and partners of the WMF 2018, the Mountain Research Initiative extends the WMF's call for participation and invites contributions from the mountain research community, including scientists and practitioners, to be part of this important global dialogue for mountains and its people.
Proposals for contributions (350-400 words) need to address one of the four core themes of the WMF 2018. If selected, contributions are to be presented at the WMF 2018 as poster presentations with 7-minute ‘flash talks'. Please refer to the specific content and suggested guiding questions that each core thematic issue seeks to address, and shape your proposed contribution accordingly. To access the detailed call and submissions portal for contributions, please refer to the WMF 2018 website. Deadline for contribution proposals is Sunday 29 July 2018, 24:00 Bishkek time (GMT +6).
