The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security and Eurac Research, through their new joint programme, Global Mountain Safeguard Research (GLOMOS)
, are organising the United Nations International Workshop in order to enhance Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Emergency Response Preparedness
in global mountain regions. The goal is to increase the resilience of mountain communities towards natural and man-made hazards and disaster risks, to protect the wealth of biological and cultural diversity, and to support the sustainable development of the highly sensitive social-ecological systems.
This event will act as a platform for communication and exchange, inviting interested researchers from numerous disciplines, practitioners, government representatives, and NGOs, UN agencies, public and private institutions, the private sector, and international networks and organizations related to mountain- specific topics.
The major aims of this workshop are to discuss present and future challenges in mountain areas worldwide, to bridge between the international academic community and the United Nations system, and to facilitate a global community of practice dealing with contemporary mountain specific subjects bringing science into action. The Mountain Research Initiative is among the partner organizations collaborating on this event.
