CH-AT: What's in for you?

If you are a Swiss or Austrian mountain researcher who subscribes to the “two minds are better than one” principle, join the CH-AT research network! It operates on the assumption that the two neighbouring Alpine countries, with their strong commonalities, are better able to tackle mountain challenges if scientists and authorities work together to share approaches, methods, and insights. Members of the CH-AT network meet colleagues from the partner country, develop common project proposals, get up to date information on projects, events, organiziations, and funding, and join events and workshops to create and discuss insights on current topics.

We have a set of activities in the pipeline for 2015. But as we cannot “do” bilateral collaboration from our cosy offices in Bern or Innsbruck we need you to participate in our efforts and to multiply the ideas! And by “you”, I mean all 1,739 Swiss and Austrian scientists in our MRI/IGF database and on our mailing list, as well as everyone else reading this text. So jump on board!

  • In February, scientists and hydropower experts will hold a preparatory meeting in Bregenz, AT for a workshop on the ecobalance of storage power stations. For youLearn more (in German only).
  • In April, we will have a new CH-AT communication format ready for you: “CH-AT it up”, an engaging magazine with brief news and feature articles on exemplary bilateral projects, available on the CH-AT website and as eNews. For you: Think your project is exemplary? Tell us and we’ll get a journalist out to speak with you!
  • Also in April, MRI will sponsor a Swiss-Austrian Mountain Mixer at the EGU in Vienna. This mixer is a great opportunity to have a glass of wine with leading Swiss and Austrian mountain researchers. Hear about their experiences, exchange ideas, ask your questions. For you: Let us know if you will be at the EGU and are ready to join the Mountain Mixer.
  • In June, CH-AT will sponsor up to five early career scientists to attend the Annual Meeting of the Swiss Geomorphological Society. For you: If you are an early career scientist, check out the SGmG 2015 website for more information.
  • In October, 2015 CH-AT will convene two Round Table sessions at the “Mountains of our Future Earth” Conference in Perth, Scotland. The first, “Key Research Themes for European Mountains”, will contribute to a European Mountain Research Agenda as a tool for lobbying the European funding organizations. The second, “Let’s CH-AT about collaboration: Experiences from bilateral projects of Austrian and Swiss scientists” will provide inspiration from best practice examples, and guidance for your own projects. For you: Take part! Let us know if you are interested in contributing your experiences to either of the Round Tables.

Throughout 2015, CH-AT will offer support to researchers from Austria and Switzerland who are working on bilateral projects. Our support can range from providing meeting infrastructure or travel support to support in communication or social media efforts. For you: Contact us!
